Add the following rational numbers:
$-4\text{ and }\frac{1}{2}$

Answer

$-4\text{ and }\frac{1}{2}$
$\frac{-4}{1}=\frac{-4\times2}{1\times2}=\frac{-8}{2}$
$\therefore \ -4+\frac{1}{2}=\frac{-8}{2}+\frac{1}{2}$
$=\frac{-8+1}{2}=\frac{-7}{2}$
