Question
“Algebraic signs are not taken into consideration in computing mean deviation.” Explain.
✓
Answer
While computing mean deviation, the $\pm$ signs of deviations are ignored, i.e., it considers all deviations positive. Absolute deviation is denoted by |D|. They are called absolute values of deviations, where the two parallel bars indicate that the absolute value is taken. This is also called "Modulus Value”.
