An empty plastic bottle floats, while a plastic bottle filled with sand sinks in water. Why?

As the density of the plastic is less than water it floats on the water. on the other hand when the bottle is filled with water it's density becomes more than the water so it sinks$\text{Density} = \frac{\text{mass}} {\text{volume}}$
