According to their main role, industries are of two types:
  1. Basic or Key: Industries which supply their raw materials to manufacture other goods.
Example: Iron and steel, copper smelting, aluminium smelting.
  1. Consumer: Industries produce goods for direct use by consumers.
Example: Sugar, toothpaste, paper, sewing machines, etc.
