Question
Concentrated sulphuric acid is both an oxidizing agent and a non-volatile acid. Write one equation each to illustrate the properties of sulphuric acid mentioned above.

Answer

As an Oxidizing agent :
$H _2 SO _4 \rightarrow H _2 O + SO _2+[ O ] $
$C +2[ O ] \rightarrow CO _2$
As a non-volatile acid :
$NaCl + H _2 SO _4 \xrightarrow{200^{\circ} C } NaHSO _4+ HCl$
