A Brahmin - द्विः जायते इति द्विजः - One who is born twice is called a द्विज Means a Brahmin is born first at his parent's house then at the house of his guru who gives him knowledge. One who has performed Upnayan Samskara is called a द्विज. A literate person is a द्विज Another meaning is - a bird. A bird lays eggs (means the bird is in the form of egg) then from the egg, a new bird is born. The third meaning is - tooth. A person has milk teeth in childhood which fall one by one and replaced by permanent teeth. So, these all are examples of द्विज.
