- Efforts for women's welfare and development take two forms.
1. By enacting and enforcing laws.
2. Through the formulation and implementation of welfare programs.
- The Central Government and the State Government have prepared the following various programs in the field of women's art.
A. Programs implemented by the Central Government:
1. Central Social Welfare Committee: This body was started in 1953 by the Central Government to oversee the working programs on women's welfare.
2. Department of Women and Child Development: In 1995, the Central Government started the Department of Women and Child Development.
3. National Education Policy: Implemented the "National Education Policy" in 1986 to promote girls' education and women's self-employment.
4. Rural Women's Development and Empowerment Scheme: The above scheme was established in 1998 as part of a self-reliance oriented program for rural women.
B. Schemes implemented by the Government of Gujarat:
1. Abhayam: In 2015, Gujarat Government has started a special helpline service 181 for the protection of women.
2. Girls' Education: A scheme providing free education from primary school to postgraduate level in the state of Gujarat.
3. Currently working schemes:
- Women's Industry Training Scheme.
- Sakhi Mandal Yojana.
- Kunwarbai's mamru plan.
- Swaryasiddhi Pojna Betty Bachao Yojana.
- Shakti Mandal Yojana.
- Women's old age home.
- Agricultural training scheme.
- Chiranjeevi Yojana.
- Saraswati Sadhana Yojana.
- Kishori Shakti Yojana.
- Matruvandana Yojana.
- Balika Samrudh Yojana.
- Women's court.
4. Others: As part of women's welfare schemes, the Gujarat government has made provision for 33% reservation for women in primary schools and local government Indians.
- A scheme to implement this scheme in the recruitment of state government employees is under consideration.
