Question
Explain filtration in brief.
✓
Answer
Filtration is the process of separating solid matter from a liquid. The mixture is passed through a filter paper or a piece cloth. Generally, water is cleaned by this process. Muddy or unclean water is passed through a filter paper folded in the form of a cone fixed onto a funnel.
Solid particles in the mixture do not pass through it and remain on the filter. Filtration is used in water treatment and sewage treatment.
Tea leaves are removed from tea by filtration. The freshly prepared tea is passed through a strainer, the solid tea leaves remain in the sieve whereas liquid tea passes through and is collected in the cup. After filtering the fruit juice, seeds and fibres are removed from the juice.
