Illiteracy has also proved to be one of the major causes of poverty in India because of their illiteracy. Indian farmers in villages fail to learn new methods of cultivation and adopt new tools and implements. In urban areas, workers are employed as unskilled workers and paid much low salaries. They have to live in slums where they lead miserable life. Consequently, their productivity further falls and hence their income.
