Meaning of Internet :
The complete word is Inter Connected Network. 'Inter' means internal and 'net' means 'network'.
It is called 'internet'. Internal linking of lass of computers of the world is 'internet'.
Internet is the largest computer operated system of the world.
This system is also known as the Net, Cyber Space, Information Super Highway etc.
Computer Net work :
Internal linking system created by connecting two or more computers with hardware and software. It is called computer network.
Place :
Computer network is created in one room, among various offices located in one building. in the offices spread in vast space, and among computers in the far off places.
Ownership :
The ownership of internet belongs to nobody. There are some institutions which help in the management of various parts of network.
Main Types of Internet : There are four main types of Computer Network :
$LAN$ (Local Area Network) :
In this type of network the computers of specific place are connected with one another through wire or without wire.
$CAN$ (Campus Area Network) :
In this type of network all computers of the same campus are interconnected.
$MAN$ (Metropolitan Area Network) :
In this type of network the computer of city are interconnected.
$WAN$ (Wider Area Network) :
In this type of network the computers of the world without any physical barriers of boundary are connected with one another.
There are two divisions of this type of network.
$(A)$ Enterprise Van $(B)$ Global Van
Enterprise Van :
The network connecting computers of a high institution, spread at various places is known as Enterprise Van.
It is known as Internet. e.g. Indian Railway connects all the computers spread in the railway offices and railway stations.
Global Van :
This type of network has no geographical boundary.
It is spread up to various countries and continents.
It is a network of the networks of various institutions.
It is called wvvw (World Wide Web).
In the present day, institutions providing internet services have removed the necessity of telephone and has created separate other own arrangement of communication through satellite.
As a result work is carried on through the cable of telephone or without cable with the satellite through Internet.
Form of Communication through Internet :
Through internet communication is carried through word (text), picture (visual) audio, and audio-visual form.
