Question
Explain why $BeH _2$ molecule has a zero dipole moment although the $Be - H$ bonds are polar.

Answer

In $BeH _2$ the $Be - H$ bond is polar but its linear bond angle is $180^{\circ}$. Due to this two same bond dipole are in opposite direction and they cancel effect of each other. Hence dipole moment of $BeH _2$ is zero. Other example : $BeF _2$.
