factorise: $x^2 + 6x + 9 - 4y^2$

Answer

$x^2 + 6x + 9 - 4y^2$
$= (x)^2 + 2 \times x \times 3 + (3)^2 - (2y)^2$
$...[(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2]$
$...[a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)]$
$= (x + 3)^2 - (2y)^2$
$= (x + 3 + 2y) (x + 3 - 2y)$
$= (x + 2y + 3) (x - 2y + 3)$
