Fill in the blanks:
If a : b = 4 : 5 and b : c = 2 : 3, then a : c = ......

Answer

If a : b = 4 : 5 and b : c = 2 : 3, then a : c = 8 : 15.
It is given that,
$\frac{\text{a}}{\text{b}}=\frac{4}{5}\ ....(1)$
and
$\frac{\text{b}}{\text{c}}=\frac{2}{3}\ ....(2)$
Now,
$\frac{\text{a}}{\text{c}}=\frac{\text{a}\div\text{b}}{\text{c}\div\text{b}}$
$=\frac{\text{a}}{\text{b}}\times\frac{\text{b}}{\text{c}}$
$=\frac{4}{5}\times\frac{2}{3}\ [\text{From (1) and (2)}]$
$=\frac{8}{15}$
Hence, a : c = 8 : 15
