Find the mean deviation for the observations $-1, 0, 4.$

Observations x: $-1, 0 , 4$
$\therefore$ Mean $\bar{x}=\frac{-1+0+4}{3}=\frac{3}{3}=1$
Now, $\sum|x-\bar{x}|=2+1+3=6$
$\therefore$ Mean deviation $MD =\frac{\sum|x-\bar{x}|}{n}=\frac{6}{3}=2$
