Question
Find whether, or not the first polynomial is a factor of the second:
$\frac{2\text{x}^2+5\text{x}+4}{\text{x+1}}$

Answer

$\frac{2\text{x}^2+5\text{x}+4}{\text{x+1}}$
$=\frac{2\text{x}(\text{x}+1)+3(\text{x}+1)+1}{\text{x}+1}$
$=\frac{(\text{x}+1)(2\text{x}+3)+1}{\text{x}+1}$
Therefore, $(x+1)$ is not a factor of $2 x^2+5 x+4$
