Vedic literature being primarily religious literature provides detailed information about the religion and religious life of the Aryans.
 
Vedic culture was the religion minister. His religion was simple.
Vedic religion:
$1.$ Prakriti Puja: The Aryans considered the elements of nature as gods and attributed human qualities to the gods and prayed to them to calm their anger or keep them happy.
 
The gods are divided into four parts in the Rig Veda.
$(1)$ Gods of the world: Prithvi, Agni, Som, Saraswati Prajapati.
 
$(2)$ Gods of space: Indra, Rudra, Marut, Vayu, Apah and Parjanya.
 
$(3)$ Gods of the world: Varuna, Mitra, Surya, Usha, Ashwin, Pushan, Dyo and Vishnu.
 
$(4)$ Bhavrup Dev: Shraddha and Manyu.
 
$2.$ Monotheism: Aryans in the early stages believed in many gods and goddesses Oma.
 
But in the Rig Veda period they had reached monotheism.
This is indicated in an interest in the tenth mandala of the Rig Veda.
$3.$ Prohibition of Idolatry: Despite the existence of so many gods in the religion of Vedic times, the temple had no place for idol worship.
 
They sit in the open and worship the elements of nature.
Their gods were nirguna and formless.
$4.$ Yajna Pradhan Pooja Vidhi: Vedic religion was the Minister of Prayer and Yajna Pradhan.
 
People prayed to the gods and pleased them instead of performing rituals.
The yajnas of this time were of two types.
$(1)$ Sacrifice performed daily by the householder.
 
The sacrifice was simple. Usually the head of the family would perform the yajna with his own religious wife.
It does not require a priest.
Such arrangements were made during the wedding ceremony and sowing of grain.
$(2)$ Rajsui Yajna, Ashvamegh Yajna, Vajpayee and Somayagna etc. were grand and expensive.
 
Sometimes this yajna lasted for months, requiring more than one priest.
Hence such sacrifices were performed only by kings or the rich.
$5.$ Religious beliefs: Aryans had different religious beliefs in the Rig Veda Kalin society.
 
He had faith in the afterlife and the existence of the soul.
They believed in Yama, heaven and hell.
Both the practice of cremation and burial was practiced.
