Demerits of Indirect Taxes
(i) Indirect taxes are regressive in nature as they fall more heavily on the poor.
(ii) Income from indirect taxes is uncertain.
(iii) As indirect taxes are levied on the commodities, the consumer does not feel the burden of tax and makes him less conscious about the public expenditure.
