Hampi is situated on the banks of river Tungabhadra in Hospet, in Bellary district of Karnataka.
  • It was the capital of Vijaynagar kingdom, in the $14th$ century.
  • It’s ruins depict the glory of the kings of Vijaynagar.
  • It was established by Harihar and Bukkarai in $1336.$
  • The years $-1509$ to $1529$ of Krishnadevraya was the golden age of Hampi.
  • The capital was destroyed after defeat of the last king Ramaraya in $1565,$ in battle of Talikota.
  • The temples of Hampi like the Vithala, Hajra, Virupaksha, Krishna and Achyutaray temple are the best examples of Vijaynagar temple style.
