In Baking Industry : Yeast is used for bread making. Yeast is added in the flour while making bread. Due to fermentation, $CO _2$ is released that makes bread flour batter porous and swollen. In present time, chiefly, Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains are used in production of bread and baking products.
In Alcohol Industry: Ethyl alcohol is obtained by fermentation of carbohydrates by yeast. Different strains of sachharomyces are used in preparation of beer, whiskey, rum and wine. These beverages are obtained as a result of distillation.
