Question
How does food get digested ?

Answer

Food gets digested in our stomach:
$(1)$ We put the food in our mouth and chew it with our teeth. Saliva mixes with the food here. Food softened by the saliva passes through the foodpipe and reaches the stomach.
$(2)$ The food is churned in the stomach. Digestive juices mix with the food here and it is partly digested.
$(3)$ The food goes into the small intestine from the stomach. Most of the food is digested here. The components of nutrients are absorbed into the walls of the small intestine.
$(4)$ Thereafter, the unabsorbed and undigested part of the food goes into the large intestine. Water is absorbed here, and the remaining undigested part of food is thrown out of the body in the form of faeces.
