Question
How does the periderm formation take place in the dicot stems? What are its components?

Answer

Cork cambium develops in cortex and cuts off cells on both outer and inner sides of stem. The outer cells differentiate into cork or phellem and inner cells form the secondary cortex or phelloderm. The various components of periderm are phellogen, phellem and phelloderm.
