The members of the Municipal Corporation are elected by the people of each ward. The elected representatives are known as ward councillors. The ward councillors look after the problems related to their ward. The ward councillors elect their heads, a Mayor and a Deputy Mayor from among themselves as presiding officer. The state government appoints a Commissioner from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to implement the decisions made by the Corporation and prepare an annual budget.
