The riverine ports are those ports which are located on the riverfront. These ports are different from seaports because the former is located in the coastal areas. The riverine ports are commonly referred to as an inland port and these are mostly an extension of sea-ports. The well known riverine ports in India are - Haldia in West Bengal, Sahebganj in Jharkhand, Farakka in West Bengal, and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on the Ganges river and Dhubri in Assam on the Brahmaputra river.
