How will you test acid and base using olfactory indicator? Explain it with an example.###State the effect of an acid and a base on an olfactory indicator. Explain it.

Acid does not remove the odour of an olfactory indicator while base can remove the odour of the olfactory indicator.
For example, when the dilute HCl is sprayed on cloth strip treated with clove oil, then the smell of clove oil persists. This indicate that acid can't destroy the odour of olfactory indicator.
But, when the dilute NaOH is sprayed on cloth strip treated with clove oil, then the smell of clove oil cannot be detected. This indicate that base can remove the odour of olfactory indicator.
