Gram Sabha:
Gram Sabha is an organization made up of people registered in the village electoral roll in the regional area of the village panchayat.
All the voters of the village are members of the Gram Sabha.
Direct democracy has been established at the village level by the Gram Sabha.
At least two general meetings of the Gram Sabha have to be held every year.
The sarpanch may call an extraordinary meeting of the gram sabha at any time.
Sarpanch plays the role of chairman in the gram sabha.
In his absence the subcommittee plays this role.
The Gram Panchayat has to present the annual accounts, administrative report of the previous year, audit note, development programs of the current year etc. at the first meeting of the Gram Sabha.
The Gram Sabha discusses these matters. Every member has the right to participate in the discussion.
Even a poor person can influence the decisions that touch his life in the public discussion of the gram sabha.
All questions are decided by a majority of the members present.
Thus, the Gram Sabha remains the foundation of the republic.
