As per the command given by Kanva, Gautami and Rishikumaras take Shakuntala to the King Dushyant's palace. These sages reminds the king of his Gandharva Vivah with Shakuntala and request him to accept her as his wife. But due to the effect of the curse given by Durvasa, the king is not able to remember anything and firmly denies to accept her. At that moment, Shakuntala felt very sad. Then she wanted to show the ring to the king that he gave her but the ring was not in her finger as it had fallen in the water at Shachitirth. She tries to remind the king of many incidents but of no use. The king rejects her so she weeps bitterly.
