Question
Name different types of chemical reactions; and explain it with suitable example.
✓
Answer
Name of different types of chemical reactions with suitable example are given below: 1. Combination reaction: Two or more than two reactants combine together to form a single product. $\text {For example,}\quad CaO ( s )+ H _2 O ( l ) \longrightarrow Ca ( OH )_2( aq )$ 2. Decomposition reaction: A single reactant, on heating decomposes to form more than one product. For example, $CaCO _3(s) \xrightarrow{\text { Heat }} CaO ( s )+ CO _2(g)$ 3. Displacement reaction: More reactive metal displaces the less reactive metal from its compound. For example, $Fe ( s )+ CuSO _4( aq ) \longrightarrow FeSO _4( aq )+ Cu ( s )$ 4. Double displacement reaction: In this an exchange of ions occurs between two compounds. For example, $Na _2 SO _4( aq )+ BaCl _2( aq ) \longrightarrow$$BaSO _4(s)+2 NaCl ( aq )$ 5. Oxidation reaction: A reaction in which oxygen is added or hydrogen is removed is called an oxidation reaction. For example, $C ( s )+ O _2(g) \longrightarrow CO _2(g)$ 6. Reduction reaction: A reaction in which hydrogen is added or oxygen is removed is called reduction reaction. For example, $CuO + H _2 \longrightarrow Cu + H _2 O$ 7. Precipitation reaction: In this reaction, insoluble salt is formed. For example, $AgNO _3+ NaCl \longrightarrow \underset{\text { Precipitate }}{ AgCl + NaNO _3}$
