Question
Ocean currents

Answer

Large water masses of the oceans flow like a river in a certain direction, which are called 'Ocean currents'. According to the temperature, ocean currents divided into two types :
$(1)$ Warm currents and
$(2)$ Cold currents. Main causes for the origin of ocean currents are solarinsolation, winds, salinity of sea water and the rotation of the earth.
  • Generally, the warm currents originate near the equator and flow towards the poles, while the cold currents originate near the poles, flow below the surface of ocean water and flow towards the equator.
