Translation :That which drinks water with its leg is tree.
This shloka has been taken from $184th$ chapter of Shantiparva of Mahabharata composed by Maharshi Ved Vyas. There is a dialogue between Bharjwaj and Bhrugu, in which it is said that $-$ that which drinks water with legs is called 'पादपः' $($tree$).$ A tree nourishes its different parts with its legs $($roots$).$ A tree also has a system of carrying water and food to its different parts through its roots. Thus Acharya Bhrugu proves that a tree is also a living creature and drinks water with its legs.
