Question
Solve: 3x + 8 >2, when x is an integer.
✓
Answer
It is given in the question that, 3x + 8 > 2 $\Rightarrow$ 3x + 8 – 8 >2 – 8 $\Rightarrow$ 3x >- 6 $\Rightarrow$ $\frac{3 x}{3}>\frac{-6}{3}$ $\Rightarrow$ x > -2, where x is an integer It can be clearly observed that the integer number greater than -2 are -1, 0, 1, 2,... Thus, solution of 3x + 8 > 2 is -1, 0, 1, 2,… when x is an integer. $\therefore$ solution set = {-1, 0, 1, 2,…}
