Question
Solve for x and y:
$\text{x}-\text{y}=3$
$\frac{\text{x}}{3}+\frac{\text{y}}{2}=6$

Answer

The given equation are:
$\text{x}-\text{y}=3\dots(\text{i})$
$\frac{\text{x}}{3}+\frac{\text{y}}{2}=6\dots(\text{ii})$
Multiply (i) by $\frac{1}2{}$ and add it to (ii).
$\frac{\text{x}}{2}-\frac{\text{y}}{2}=\frac{3}{2}$ and $\frac{\text{x}}{3}+\frac{\text{y}}{2}=6$
$\Rightarrow\frac{\text{x}}2{}+\frac{\text{x}}{3} =\frac{3}{2}+6$
$\Rightarrow\frac{\text{5x}}6{}=\frac{15}2{}$
$\Rightarrow\text{x}=9$
Substituting in (i), we get y = 6
So, x = 9 and y = 6
