Cross pollination is preferred over self pollination for the following reasons:
  1. Cross pollination produces variety in species by recombination of genes whereas self pollination maintains the purity of plants and do not contribute to variety.
  2. Genetic recombination in cross pollination produces healthier progenies generation to generation whereas in self pollination progenies become weaker and weaker and more prone to diseases.
