• The functions of Taluka Panchayat are as follows:

1. Health and Hygiene:

• The taluka panchayat has to carry out works related to rural water supply, water pollution prevention, primary health centers, hospitals, maternity homes and family planning.

2. Education:

• The taluka panchayat has to establish and operate primary schools in the villages of the taluka, construct houses for primary schools, prepare playgrounds and work on secondary education.
• The taluka panchayat has to carry out activities related to non-formal education, adult education etc. in the work related to social education.

3. Construction:

• Construction and maintenance of roads connecting the villages of the taluka, roads connecting the major roads and village roads.
• The work of planting trees along the roads of the taluka is to be done by the taluka panchayat.

4. Villages:

• The taluka panchayat has to develop the village level of the villages of the taluka and plan the village residences.

5. Agriculture:

• The taluka panchayat has to prepare and implement plans for the welfare of the untouchables, the weaker sections of the society, the handicapped, the elderly, the destitute, the widows, the abandoned etc. in the villages of its area.
• The task is to provide social security to the needy through the construction and operation of orphanages and shelters for the poor.
