The government has introduced some institutional reforms in the agricultural sector from time to time.
> The government abolished the Zamindari System and thus stopped the exploitation of the farmers.
> The 'Land Regulation Act' has benefited the farmers. The 'Land to the Tiller' Act has helped the tiller to acquire the right to ownership of the land (Tenancy Act) that he tills.
> To increase crop production, improved seeds and hybrid seeds are developed.
> The inequalities between the land owner and the farmer have been reduced by implementing the 'Land Ceiling Act'
> According to the 'Consolidation of Land Programme', small land holding were unified for farming, to make them economically viable.
> Our government also offers financial assistance to the farmers in the form of agricultural loans. Co-operative Banks, Co-operative societies have been established to provide loans to the farmers in time and with low interest rates.
> Local marketing yards, godowns at co-operative and government level, transportation and communication facilities have been increased so that the farmers can get sustainable (support) price for their produce. In Gujarat some institutions like the Gujarat Co-operative Oilseeds Growers' Federation (GROFED), the Gujarat State Co-operative Marketing Society Ltd. (GUJCOMASOL) and National Dairy Development Boards (NDDB) purchase farm products from the farmers at a sustainable price. The Farmers' interests are protected by 'Agricultural Crop Insurance Plant.
