State the main functions of enzymes.

Enzymes are biological catalyst and they are highly specific in nature. The two main functions are as follows:
(1) They lower the requirement of activation energy.
(2) They speed up the rate of reaction.
E.g. Enzyme maltase catalyses maltose to glucose.
