(i) The fuse wire works on the principle of heating effect of an electric current.
(ii) The fuse is made up of an alloy with low melting point.
(iii) This wire can allow certain maximum current to flow through it; if current exceeds this value, the heat generated in the coil is sufficient to melt it.
(iv) Due to this electric current stops flowing through the circuit and the valuable electrical appliances can be saved from possible damage due to excessive electric current.
(v) Due to this, the material used for making fuse wire should have low melting point.
