Question
The probability that a student selected at random from a class will pass in Mathematics is $\frac{4}{5}$, and the probability that he/ she passes in Mathematics and Computer Science is $\frac{1}{2}$. What is the probability that he/ she will pass in Computer Science if it is known that he/ she has passed in Mathematics?

Answer

Given,
Probability to pass mathen atics (M)
$\text{P(M)}=\frac{4}{5}$
Probability to pass in mathematics (M) and computer Science (C)
$\text{P}(\text{M}\cap\text{C})=\frac{1}{2}$
To find, $\text{P}\Big(\frac{\text{C}}{\text{M}}\Big)$
We know tht,
$\text{P}\Big(\frac{\text{C}}{\text{M}}\Big)=\frac{\text{P}(\text{M}\cap\text{C})}{\text{P(M)}}$
$=\frac{\frac{1}{2}}{\frac{4}{5}}$
$=\frac{1}{2}\times\frac{5}{4}$
$=\frac{8}{5}$
Required probability $=\frac{8}{5}$

There are two types of fertilisers 'A' and 'B'. 'A' consists of 12% nitrogen and 5% phosphoric acid whereas 'B' consists of 4% nitrogen and 5% phosphoric acid. After testing the soil conditions, farmer finds that he needs at least 12kg of nitrogen and 12kg of phosphoric acid for his crops. If 'A' costs Rs. 10 per kg and 'B' cost Rs. 8 per kg, then graphically determine how much of each type of fertiliser should be used so that nutrient requiremnets are met at a minimum cost.
