Sodium hydroxide reacts with calcium nitrate and forms white ppt. of calcium hydroxide which is insoluble in excess of sodium hydroxide.

Ca \left( NO _3\right)_2+2 NaOH \longrightarrow Ca ( OH )_2+2 NaNO _3
