The engine of the cell is called ribosome. These are of two types-70S and 80S. 70S ribosomes are found in chlorophyll and mitochondria of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. 80S ribosomes are found in all eukaryotic cells. 70S are small in size and their sub-units are big 50S and small 30S. The 80S ribosome consists of 60S and 40S subunits. In normal condition, both these subunits are found separately in the cytoplasm. Here 'S' (Svedberg's Unit) stands for the sedimentation coefficient; it is indirectly a measure of density and size.
