Question
What is called coefficient of linear expansion?

Answer

For a solid rod if increase in length is $\Delta L$ for $\Delta T$ increase in temperature then ratio of change per unit length $\left(\frac{\Delta L }{ L }\right)$ and increase in temperature $\Delta T$ is called the coefficient of linear expansion ( $\alpha$ ) i.e.
$ \frac{\Delta l}{l}=\alpha \Delta T $
Where $\alpha$ is called coefficient of linear expansion.
