Digital India is a programme launched by the government of India in July 2015. It was started with a view to transform India into digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
It is centred on three key areas :
(i) digital infrastructure as a utility to every citizen,
(ii) governance services on demand and
(iii) digital empowerment of citizens.
Objectives of Digital India
(i) to create a digitally empowered society.
(ii) to build a knowledge economy by improving technological infrastructure.
(iii) to provide government services digitally to all citizens.
(iv) To provide high speed internet at all Gram Panchayats across India.
Advantages of Digital System
(i) It is economical and easy to design. It reduces paper work.
(ii) It is very well suited for both numerical and non-numerical information.
(iii) It is more immune to noise.
(iv) Communication can be kept private and secured through the use of encryption.
(v) It empowers citizens with digital services.
(vi) It boosts e-Governance.
