Green revolution refers to the tremendous increase in agricultural production and production that has come about with the introduction of new agricultural technology.Advantages of Green Revolution:
  1. It transformed the economy of scarcity into an economy of plenty.
  2. Green Revolution led to rise in production and productivity.
  3. Green revolution helped in removing continuing food shortages.
Disadvantages of Green Revolution:
  1. HYV was restricted to only five crops namely, wheat, rice, jowar, bajra and maize. Commercial crops were excluded from the ambit of the strategy. Substantial increase in wheat production was noticed.
  2. HYV crops were more prone to attack by pests and the small farmers who adopted this technology.
  3. It increased the gap between the rich and the poor farmers on the one hand and agriculturally developed and agriculturally less developed states on the other.
