(a) Given: $2 NO _{2( g )}+ F _{2( g )} \rightarrow 2 NO _2 F$
Rate $= k \left[ NO _2\right]\left[ F _2\right]$
Hence the reaction is first order with respect to $NO _2$ and first order with respect to $F _2$
$\therefore$ Order of reaction $= n _{ NO 2}+ n _{ F 2}=1+1=2$

(b) Given :
$\begin{aligned}
& CHCl _{3( g )}+ Cl _{2( g )} \rightarrow CCl _{4( g )}+ HCl _{( g ),} \\
& \text { Rate }= k \left[ CHCl _3\right]\left[ Cl _2\right]^{1 / 2}
\end{aligned}$
Hence the reaction is first order in $CHCl _3$ and half order in $Cl _2$.
$\therefore$ Order of reaction
$= n _{ CHCl3 }+ n _{ Cl 2}=1+\frac{1}{2}=\frac{3}{2}$
