What is the basis of national party?

Political parties that contest elections over large numbers of states and across local, state and the national levels are called national political parties.
Their presence is not restricted in few states. Rather they are present in almost all the states of the country. In most of the states, these could be the one of the biggest political parties too.
They have an edge over the regional parties with regards to the resources and workers.
At present, Indian National Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party are the two biggest national political parties in India.
