Question
What is the greenhouse effect called?

Answer

The sun's rays are reflected from the earth's surface and pass through the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere then absorbs the long wavelength "infrared" rays and is reflected back to the earth, resulting in warming of the earth and the atmosphere. This effect is called the "greenhouse effect".
