What is the significance of double fertilization ?

Double fertilization is an important characteristics of flowering plants. The process was first discovered by S. G. Navashim. (1900)
Out of two male gametes released from pollen tube into ovule, one fusion with the egg to form the diploid zygate and the second male gamete fuses with the two polar nuclei of (Secondary nucleus) to form the triploid primary endosperm nucleus. This is called triple fusion.
After double fertiliztion or triple fusion, a seed and fruit develops.
