Question
What knowledge was enhanced by the discovery of the Emerson effect? Tell.

Answer

From the discovery of Emerson effect, it became known that two light systems or pigment systems are used in photosynthesis. These two pigment systems are called PS-I and PS-II.
Pigment System (PS-I) contains 300 chlorophyll molecules, 50 carotenoids, one $P _{700}$ molecule, Cyt. f, one plastocyanin, two Cyt. b6, FRS and one or two membrane bound ferredoxin molecules. It contains Chl . a, iron and copper are also there. PS-I is used in cyclic and non-cyclic photophosphatation. Pigment System-II (PS-II) contains 200 chlorophyll, 50 carotenoids, one molecule of $P _{680}$, one primary receptor, plastoquinone, Mn molecule, two Cyt. b, one Cyt. $b _6$ and fluorides are found. $O _2$ is produced by the pigmentation system with a powerful oxidant and a weak reducing agent. Pigment system-I (PSI) is found on the outer surface of the thylakoid and PSII is found on the inner surface of the thylakoid.
