Hampi founded in 1336 fell to ruins by 1565 due to defeat of Vijayanagara by Deccani rulers.
Surat became important as a port city but began to decline in late 17th century. Masulipatnam was centre of activity in 17th century but gradually declined during the course of 18th century.
