Some insects and animals use plants as food. But they do not produce the food themselves. Animals feed on food produced by other ingredients. Thus, the energy generated from plants is used by animals and thus the form of energy is changed. Animals that use plants as food are called herbivores. Cows, buffaloes, deer, etc. are "herbivores" or "primary consumers".
