Antonio Monserrate was a Spanish traveller, who came to India in 1578. He stayed in the court of Mughal emperor, Akbar and was much impressed by his personality. In his book of travel he throws light on the flourishing trade in labour. In spite of this he also wrote about the social, religious and cultural traditions of the people.
